Gardening

I think I may have posted something similar to this a long time ago. I heard about the practice years ago so I started sprinkling raw milk on all my raised garden beds every spring before planting. I have no doubt in my mind that simple step increased the health and productivity of my plants. There was no comparison, really. I mean, how else are you going to pull in 12 GALLONS of carrots from a plot 4'x6'? Besides, what could be a more natural, organic soil amendment than grass fed raw milk? :)
Read the article. It's very interesting.

Every Sunday when the weather was nice, Shawn would take Zoe out for a walk in the garden and he would take pictures of all my mom and I had growing. He took Zoe for one last walk, without my knowing about it, a few days before we left. I was so happy she had that nice time out in the garden when everything was so disruptive and hectic with the move. I'm sure they had a happy time. I miss the garden seeing these pictures.

My niece Elizabeth gave me a cute little Venus Flytrap as a gift last year. I thought at one point I'd killed the poor thing. I didn't realize it wasn't getting enough water and all the catchers turned black and shriveled up! My mom, who has a knack of raising plants from the dead, assured me there was no point in trying to save it. I watered it anyway and left it on the window shelf.

I woke up this morning with a terrible headache. I didn't even know an early snow had come until Shawn so kindly brought me this tray. I have trouble with my stomach, so I can't take any pills when I have a headache without eating something. He brought me gluten free toast with ghee, sugar, and cinnamon, herbal tea, ibuprofen, Immunity Shots, and cute snow capped marigolds. :-)

I planted Garden Huckleberry seeds from Seed Saver Exchange. Some people might look at the berries and foliage and think: nightshade! Pull it out! But I assure you, these berries are not poisonous. They were quite nice, actually. If you add enough sugar, the taste and texture is similar to blueberries. I even made a pie from them.

Well, I just picked my gigantic crop of Blue Corn from Seed Savers Exchange. I told Shawn that if we play our cards right, we might be able to squeeze one blue tortilla from my harvest! haha!

I wanted to post this beautiful garden meal I made. It's also my first post with the purple Graffiti cauliflower from Territorial Seed Company in its cooked form. I was surprised because it didn't lose its color. Instead the color seemed to intensify and all I did was steam it until tender.

This meal includes:

I wanted to post this great picture of rosemary my mom picked. I can't believe how well everything does, veggies, herbs, it doesn't matter, when they are planted in raised garden beds.

I love how huge everything can grow in my raised beds even if we don't have the longest growing season. I love being able to dry my own organically raised herbs for use throughout the year. It's certainly a lot cheaper!

I took a stroll through the garden and thought I would take some pictures before I started picking produce.
This broccoli is called Calabrese. I bought it from Seed Savers Exchange .

This crazy cauliflower is called Graffiti from Territorial Seed Company .
